McFarland High football Cougars were up for the challenge Friday night against Farmersville High School.

The Cougars offense hit some long plays early, including senior quarterback Julian Avila's 50-yard run on the team's first possession.

But will they be ready for their season opener on Friday at Avenal? McFarland will host Exeter High on Aug. 30.
