Daniella Hightower was named the chairperson for the Philippine Weekend singing contest. Andrew Mendoza suggested expanding the social media advertising of PW. He and entertainment chair Jodie Fernandez will work together in developing the publicity.
Emma Ancheta, 586-7883, is in charge of arranging candidates for the Tiny Tots.
Dan Madriaga will again be chair for the PW parade for which the applications are available at the Chamber of Commerce as well as applications for the Barrio Fiesta.
Theme of this year’s summer event is “Celebrating Our Rich Legacy Through Culture and Tradition.”

Safe and sane fireworks will be sold at sites in Delano from noon through 10 p.m. from June 28 through July 4.
Delano Chamber of Commerce and Delano Babe Ruth baseball both are automatic sellers each year as they were selling the fireworks prior to 1996. They do, however, need to apply each year.
From 14 lottery applications, seven groups have been chosen for the other sales assignments.
Delano Bengals drew first and is expected to again be located in the Walmart lot. Delano Elks and Victory Outreach also were chosen. Robert F. Kennedy High School Grid Iron is expected to be at the Planet Fitness lot.
Community Worship Center was also awarded a booth as were Robert F. Kennedy High School which will be at the Kmart lot and the Delano Stallion Pee Wees.

June 30 is the deadline for submitting nominees for grand marshal of the fall Harvest Holidays as well as theme ideas for the October festival. They must be returned to the Delano Chamber of Commerce office by that date. A half-dozen grand marshal nominees were presented at the meeting, but nominators must first present written statements as to the worthiness of their nominees.
Applications and/or information on the Harvest Holidays queen pageant open to the next school year’s senior girls in the Delano and McFarland areas are available at the chamber.
The last day to enter the event will be June 30, the date of the first practice of candidates. Information on the meeting location and time will be available at the chamber or from pageant director Sumeet Batth at the Delano Recreation Department.
It was reported at the June 14 directors’ meeting that Denise Rodriguez will head the Grand Parade and April Gonzalez will again direct the Tiny Tots show.
Groups, individuals or businesses willing to be sponsors of the festival in general or of specific festival events may contact any of several committee members — Alice Luque-Duarte, Batth, Rodriguez, Gonzalez, Pearl Rivera, Henrietta Ruiz, Suzanne Villaruz, Steve Kinsey, Marcela Cortez and other organizers.

The city’s Block H located between Highway 99 and Glenwood Street and just south of 11th Avenue will soon be the site of a medical center. A few weeks back, I incorrectly reported that the DMV was also moving to that site.

To the north of the Maya Cinemas are two single family home subdivisions. The developments, which have the same developer, make up a large part of Delano’s building permits, but it is reported that most of the permits were issued in 2016 and 2017. About 150 single family homes are being built in that area.
The retail businesses constructed around the theater make up several million dollars in permits, it has been reported. The actual tenants of the businesses will not be known until they apply for business licenses.

Harbor Freight Tools retail establishment is being constructed at the north end of Delano near Highway 99. The building will be 16,119 square feet. Applicant is Robert Massey.
The general plan amendment is from industrial to service commercial and rezoning from industrial to general commercial.
