You wouldn’t imagine that some of the best mac and cheese in Bakersfield is found inside a gas station market, but it is. Don’t take our word for it, though.

The chili verde mac and cheese served at Countryside Market & Restaurant locations around town has won award after award since it debuted in 2016 at the Bakersfield Mac and Cheese Festival. And it didn’t stop there. The savory dish consisting of chili verde salsa made in-house, multiple cheeses and large chunks of pork has claimed awards on the Central Coast as well. It’s even available as a topping on a freshly made hamburger.

So next time you fill up your car at a Countryside station, do yourself a favor and fill up your belly as well with the chili verde mac and cheese.
