Attorneys at Chain | Cohn | Stiles have filed two claims against Kern County on behalf of girls who were allegedly sexually assaulted by correctional officers in separate incidents at Juvenile Hall.
In the first incident, correctional officer Cesar Holguin Navejar is accused of sexually assaulting a girl at the facility throughout September 2014. Navejar is charged with six crimes including sexual battery and assault by a public officer.
His next court hearing is May 19.
The other case involves alleged sexual assault against another girl by a different male correctional officer from September 2014 to January of this year. That suspect, whose name was not included in a news release, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending further investigation.
Chain | Cohn | Stiles attorney Neil Gehlawat has scheduled a press conference at 10 a.m. Friday to further discuss the claims. The filing of a claim is a required step before pursuing a lawsuit against a public entity.
