The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team will take the court Friday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament against No. 3-ranked Stanford.

The match will be played at Stanford’s Maples Pavilion at 7 p.m. The Cardinal are the defending national champions.

CSUB has qualified for the NCAA Tournament two of the last four years. The last time the Roadrunners took the court in the NCAAs came in 2014, when they lost to Stanford in three sets.

This year’s team qualified for the postseason by winning the Western Athletic Conference Tournament two weeks ago. CSUB knocked off No. 1-seed New Mexico State 3-1 in the second round of the WAC competition, before beating No. 2 Texas-Rio Grande Valley 3-1 in the championship. That match was played on the Vaqueros home floor in Edinburg, Texas.

CSUB held a 19-13 overall record this season and 9-5 mark in conference play. Stanford is 26-3 overall, 19-1 in the Pac 12.
