The Cal State Bakersfield men's basketball team opened the final installment of the Great Alaska Shootout with a win over host Alaska Anchorage, 59-39, on Wednesday night.

With the win, CSUB improved to 3-2 on the season. The team will take the court again Friday at 9 p.m. in the second round of the tournament. 

Alaska Anchorage, a Division II program, is now 3-3.

CSUB led 25-14 at halftime and opened things up further in the second half.

Moataz Aly led the Roadrunners with 16 points. Ricky Holden added 14 for CSUB. They were the only two Roadrunners in double figures.

Brent Wrapp had 11 assists for CSUB and Shon Briggs added eight rebounds. Three other Roadrunners — Wrapp, Jarkel Joiner and Holden — had five rebounds apiece.

While CSUB shot just 3 of 13 from 3-point territory, Alaska Anchorage made just 2 of 20 from deep. The Seawolves shot just 28 percent from the field on the evening (14 of 49).

The tournament championship is scheduled for Saturday.

This is the final year of existence for the Great Alaska Shootout. The tournament field is made up of Alaska Anchorage, Cal Poly, CSUB, Central Michigan, College of Charleston, Idaho, Sam Houston State and Santa Clara.
