RIVERSIDE — UC Riverside took control with five runs in the fourth, then added three in the fifth and two in the sixth en route to an 11-2 baseball win over Cal State Bakersfield Saturday night.

Losing pitcher Mahlik Jones allowed six runs, eight hits and one walk in 3 2-3 innings. Garrett Nimmo relieved him and was hit hard, allowing five runs in 1 2-3 innings as CSUB fell to 9-5 overall. Riverside is 11-7.

Andrew Penner had the best day for the CSUB offense, going 3-for-4 with a run and RBI Jake Ortega went 2 for 3 and Max Carter went 2 for 4.

Both teams had four errors, with CSUB allowing four unearned runs.

Riverside freshman Daniel Martinez went 4-for-5 with five RBIs
