Roger Holder dodged a couple of wrecks right in front of him then went on to win the Super Stock feature on Saturday night at Kern County Raceway Park.
“We’ve had some good luck on our side, for sure,” Holder said after his second win this season. “You just have to pay attention and when you think something is going to happen, dodge it.”
Holder started eighth and took the lead following a restart on lap nine.
He gained a couple of easy spots on lap six due to a two-car crash in front of him and went from fourth to second on lap eight after Rich Delong III and Paul Ebersbacher got together on the back straight.
Kyle Fife moved into second midway through the 40-lap race and cautions on lap 31 and 37 allowed him to restart side-by-side with Holder.
Fife gave him a brief run on the lap 32 restart, but easily pulled away on the final one.
“He was probably a tenth or two tenths (of a second) better than me, but the restarts were my shot,” said Fife, who finished second. “I have to get better at them.”
Anthony Mainella, who led the first eight laps, finished third followed by Perrin Koostra and Chris Dalton.
A large crowd enjoyed an 2,300-shot, 18-minute aerial fireworks show before the Lucas Oil Modified 75-lap feature. That race was not complete at print deadline.
In youth action, Kercie Jung doubled down winning both the Bandolero and Senior Mini Dwarf feature.
Jung took the lead from Seth Wise four laps into the 20-lap race and went on to win by seven seconds. She has won all three races in the division this year. Riley Massey ws third.
Jung found the going a bit tougher earlier in the night,
She spun on the first lap of the Senior Mini Dwarf feature but rebounded to win the 20-lapper thanks to another spin.
Tyler Blankenship raced into the lead at the drop of the green and held a big lead over Trenton Eurto and Jung when he came up on the slower car of Cale Bedingfield with four laps to go.. Blankenship made contact while trying to pass Bedingfield and spun, putting Eurto into the lead.
Jung dove under Euto in turn one on the final lap and powered away to the win. Jung won every race at the track last year and is 2-for-2 this year. Eurto was second and Blankenship rebounded for third.
Noel Armstrong took the lead early in the 20-lap Junior Mini Dwarf feature and cruised to his second straight win. Talon Grady was second and Stephen Bazen third.
