Leighton May of Taft defeated Nicole Bashirtash of Bakersfield Christian 6-0, 6-2 for the South Sequoia League girls tennis individual singles title on Thursday at Taft.

In the doubles finals, it was two sets of BCHS teammates going at it for the league crown with Abigail Stevens and Anabella McGilvary defeating Grace Spoelstra and Delaney Anderholt 6-2, 6-3.

In the South Yosemite League tournament being played at Bakersfield College, Sara Cooper of West will play Emily Tieu of Independence in the semifinals Friday at 9 a.m. with Meigan Wu of Independence playing Catrina Hibbard of Tehachapi on the other side of the bracket.

Finals are slated for 11 a.m.

In the High Desert League singles finals, Kern Valley’s Maddie Hurley finished in second place while Burgette Sartor and Tesse Monahan won the HDL doubles title in a

6-2, 6-4 win over teammates Hannah Hurley and Shelby Williams.
