Bakersfield College’s Adrian Godinez won the 184-pound championship in the CCCAA State Wrestling Championships at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton on Saturday.
It was not the dream matchup BC envisioned as that opportunity slipped away in the morning semifinal when BC’s fellow 184-pounder Jeremy Mass lost to Luis Melecio of Mt. Sac.
Godinez dominated the championship match against Melecio, taking a 10-4 decision.
Bakersfield College 133-pounder Pedro Corona also reached the championship match but ended up on the short side of a 8-1 decision to Isiah Perez of Fresno City and finished as runner-up.
Mass was the next highest placer for BC with a fourth, losing a 14-2 major decision to Hector Vargas of Mt. SAC in the third-place match
Emmett Kuntz lost in the semifinals at 149 and suffered a concussion so he injury defaulted to 6th place, according to BC head coach Brett Clark.
Zavion Roberson placed sixth at 197 and Ramiro Macias was eighth at 285.
Fresno City won the team championship. BC placed fifth.
