Bakersfield College beat Mission College, 4-3, on the opening day of the College of the Sequoias Tournament on Thursday afternoon.

The game was played at Reedley College. The Renegades are now 2-3 on the season while Mission College is 1-2.

Chris Diaz (1-1), a Stockdale High School graduate, turned in his second straight quality start. He held Mission College to just six hits and three runs over 8 2/3 innings. He struck out six and issued zero walks.

Hector Ruvalcaba was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and an RBI double.

Nate Ortiz nailed down the win in the ninth to pick up the save.

BC will play Hartnell College on Friday at 10 a.m.
