Cal State Bakersfield (4-9, 0-2 Pac-12) trailed by just three points heading into the final two matches of the night in the Icardo Center. No. 8 Arizona State (10-2, 3-0) saved two of its top wrestlers for last, though, and came away with the 24-14 win on Wednesday night.

ASU's Jason Tsirtis — ranked No. 10 at 149 pounds — beat CSUB's Kalani Tonge in a 6-1 decision. Joshua Shields — ranked No. 6 at 157 pounds — topped CSUB's Coleman Hammond on a 16-8 major decision. Hammond is ranked No. 16.

"I think we wrestled well," CSUB head coach Manny Rivera said."I really feel we could have won a couple more. ... Some of the matches we lost I think we had a lot of fight and really that's what I expected from them."

No. 14-ranked 197-pounder Matt Williams got CSUB's first win of the night over Cade Belshay with a major decision. Roadrunners Sergio Mendez (No. 27 at 125 pounds), Sean Nickell (No. 28 at 133 pounds) and Russell Rohlfing (No. 25 at 141 pounds) won their bouts.
