The Cal State Bakersfield women’s basketball team tightened its grip on the top spot in the Western Athletic Conference with its seventh win in a row. The Roadrunners earned their second straight blowout, taking down Grand Canyon, 69-40, on the road on Saturday.

CSUB (15-10) is in first place in the WAC with a 9-2 conference record. Grand Canyon (13-12) was tied for second in conference prior to the game but dropped down to fourth at 7-4.

The Roadrunners’ defense was all over Grand Canyon from the start. CSUB held the Antelopes to two points in the first quarter. Grand Canyon, the conference’s leader in 3-pointer per game with eight, went just 2-for-12 from beyond the arc.

CSUB has given up just a combined total of 70 points in its last two games and has allowed only 48.1 points per game during the current winning streak.

The Roadrunners had five players score 10 or more points. Jazmine Johnson, Alexxus Gilbert and Jazmyne Bartee led the way with 12 points each. Johnson and Bartee both had seven rebounds.
