The Cal State Bakersfield women’s basketball team (8-9, 2-1 Western Athletic) couldn’t hold onto a one-point lead with 3:58 left in the game and fell to New Mexico State (9-8, 3-0), 56-48, on the road on Saturday. The Roadrunners had led for more than 28 minutes in the game.
Facing a seven-point deficit with 6:39 remaining in the game, the Roadrunners went on a eight-point run. Jazmyne Bartee hit two free throws. Aja WIlliams and Jerice Fears each hit one. Jazmine Johnson’s layup with less than five minutes left made it a one-point game before Williams gave CSUB the lead.
But the Roadrunners didn’t score for the final 3:58 of the game and the Aggies closed out the contest on a nine-point run. CSUB missed its final seven shots of the game.
The Roadrunners shot 29 percent in the contest and only made three 3-pointers. New Mexico State shot 41 percent and made seven 3s.
New Mexico State has now won 49 of its last 51 WAC games.
