The Cal State Bakersfield women’s basketball team played elite competition on the road Sunday afternoon and couldn’t pull off the upset.

CSUB lost at No. 14 Stanford, 57-34, in an afternoon contest. CSUB is now 1-3 on the season, while Stanford improved to 2-2.

The Roadrunners trailed 21-11 at halftime and 36-16 at halftime.

Daije Harris led CSUB with 10 points, while Aja Williams scored seven. The team also got six rebounds from Malaysia McHenry.

Alexa Romano had a game-high 13 points for the Cardinal, who shot 39 percent from the floor (compared to CSUB’s 24 percent) and out-rebounded the Roadrunners 44-30.

CSUB returns home Wednesday night for a home game against Cal State Fullerton. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Icardo Center.

The Roadrunners will then be off for the holiday weekend, returning to the court Monday with a road game at Southern Utah.
