Cal State Bakersfield's softball team increased its win total by 33 percent in one day Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep at UC Riverside.
The Roadrunners (8-28) rallied to win the first game 5-2 thanks to a four-run fifth inning. After two runs scored on an error to tie the game, Kaylynn Burt's two-run single gave CSUB the lead. Lyndsay Klimenko (2-10) earned the win with a complete game, and Burt stole two bases to equal the CSUB season record with 15.
CSUB won the second game 3-2 in 10 innings. It was scoreless through eight innings, with CSUB's Summer Evans and UC Riverside's Jacy Boles matching impressive starting pitching efforts. CSUB scores twice in the ninth on Jocelyn Betancourt's RBI single and Karah Wiseman's RBI groundout. The Highlanders (21-19) tied the game when Rebecca Faulkner hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth, but Julea Cavazos' RBI double in the 10th put CSUB up for good.
The 10-inning game was the Roadrunners' longest since a loss to St. Mary's in 2013. CSUB plays host to New Mexico State in a three-game series Friday and Saturday.
