The Cal State Bakersfield cross country season continued to improve Saturday as senior Angel Valdez reset her personal best 5k time at the Fresno State Invitational.

Valdez, a Bakersfield native, placed sixth behind runners from Cal Poly, Fresno Pacific, Fresno State, Notre Dame de Namur and San Jose State.

The graduate of East Bakersfield High School reset the school’s Division I record for most consecutive races leading the team.

Behind Valdez was Paradise Pelzer, who crossed the line in 19:42.8.

Alejandra Frausto, a redshirt freshman, finished third for CSUB and 21st overall and posted a time of 19:43.9.

Alyssa Diaz (20:26.7) and Sonia Holguin, a redshirt freshman, (21:38.9) rounded out the scoring for CSUB in Fresno.

Next up, the Runners will head to Santa Clarita on Sept. 30, for the Mustang Challenge.
