Brett Henry races in October 2016 at Auto Club Famoso Raceway.

Tom Macht / For The Californian

Brett Henry crashed his AA/FUEL Altered on Saturday afternoon at Auto Club Famoso Raceway during the 26th Annual California Hot Rod Reunion.

Henry, of Wichita, Kan., was reported to be conscious and talking after the incident. But it took safety crews several minutes to extract him from the car before he was transported to Kern Medical Center.

Henry shut his “Iron Mistress” off before the finish line, but the engine came back to life in the shutdown area and it sounded as if the throttle had stuck open.

The incident shut action down for about an hour, as Henry was tended to, his car hauled off, and repairs were made to a guard rail which he hit.
