Bakersfield College (4-4) got 21 points from sophomore wing Tucker Eenigenburg, but it wasn’t enough as the Renegades lost to Riverside (5-2), 79-72, in San Jacinto in the Hemet Valley Kiwanis Hoops and Crops Tournament on Thursday. BC led by as much as 10 in the opening minutes of the second half before Riverside tied the game with a 12-2 run. Later, with the score tied 53-53, Riverside hit two layups and a 3-pointer to go up by seven. BC couldn’t recover. Bakersfield scored 24 points from the free throw line but made just 31.7 percent of its shots. Riverside made nine more shots in one less attempting, converting on 46.8 percent of its shots. Riverside’s 40 points in the paint helped it convert at a high rate.
BC women's basketball
BC (2-4) ended a three-game losing streak with a 56-48 win over Cosumnes River (0-4) at the Santa Ana Classic on Thursday. Bakersfield’s Octavia Croney scored 23 points off the bench on 10-of-21 shooting and Angie Kroeger played all 40 minutes, adding six points, seven assists and 13 rebounds. BC held Cosumnes River to 26.1 percent shooting and overcame a 10-point first-half deficit. It was the Renegades’ first game in almost two weeks. Its last game, scheduled originally for Nov. 21 against Santa Ana, was postponed when the BC bus broke down en route to the matchup.
