Bakersfield College’s men’s basketball team was in position to win the conference with a few games remaining, but the Renegades dropped three of their final four games to end the regular season. The final game was an 81-77 loss to College of the Canyons on the road on Wednesday.
BC finished the year 13-13 and 4-4 in the Western State-South. An at-large playoff bid is up in the air.
The Renegades battled back from a 10-point halftime deficit and even took a five-point lead with five minutes left in the game but could not hold on. A flagrant foul call on BC with just a few minutes left took away any Renegades moment, head coach Rich Hughes said.
“It was a horrendous call by a veteran official,” Hughes said.
BC’s 44.1 percent from the floor topped Canyons’ 39.1 percent, but the Cougars hit 11 3-pointers to BC’s seven. The big difference came in rebounding, where Canyons grabbed 41 boards and BC got just 26.
Jaylunn English scored 30 points for the Renegades and Tucker Eenigenburg had 21. BC point guard Johnathan Murray passed for nine assists.
