Bakersfield College men's basketball (13-11, 4-2 Western State-South) doubled Santa Monica's (3-20, 0-6) score at halftime and cruised to an 81-53 win in the Gil Bishop Sports Center on Wednesday. It was BC's final home game of the regular season.

Sophomore forward Jaylunn English led the Renegades with 29 points on 11-for-19 shooting. BC sophomore guard Johnathan Murray tallied 10 assists and scored 15. Henry Galinato, a forward, had 17 points and 11 rebounds.

As a team, the Renegades shot 51.6 percent from the field.

It helped make up for a quiet day from BC guard Tucker Eenigenburg, who had just seven points on a 3-for-12 shooting night.

The BC defense held Santa Monica to 22.2 percent shooting in the first half. Santa Monica shot just 12 percent from 3 for the game.

BC women's basketball tops Santa Monica while down two starters

Bakersfield College women's basketball didn't have leading scorer Octavia Croney or center Aubrey Stone, but the Renegades pulled out a win in the Gil Bishop Sports Center on Wednesday. BC (10-13, 4-2) topped Santa Monica (8-16, 1-5), 71-64.

The players the Renegades were missing — both out with concussions — showed early. BC was down 18-11 after the first quarter and trailed by 12 midway through the second period.

The Santa Monica press was BC's nemesis early in the game, head coach Paula Dahl said. The Renegades gave up 22 points off turnovers in the first half.

But Dahl put in Victoria Trevino, who pulled in 15 rebounds in 14 minutes. Jasmyn Rodriguez started driving effectively and BC chipped away at the deficit.

The Renegades outscored Santa Monica 29-19 in the third quarter and turned the 12-point second-quarter hole into a 12-point lead in the fourth.

Rodriguez led BC with 20 points.
