It took 11 innings, but Bakersfield College baseball (5-5) eventually took down El Camino (4-4), 5-4, at home on Saturday. The Renegades fell behind 4-0 in the first three innings of the game before battling back to win the third installment of the three-game series with El Camino.
In the bottom of the 11th, BC's Ryan Darbee led off with a single to the shortstop. Brycin Hernandez laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Darbee over to second. BC's Isaac Ramos singled into right-center field to drive Darbee home and win the game.
“Ramos is somebody who has swung the bat well for us,” BC head coach Tim Painton said. “He did a good job of using the other side of the field, which should have been his approach in that situation. He came up with a big hit.”
Hernandez was 2-for-4 on the day with two runs scored. Hector Ruvalcaba went 3-for-4 for the Renegades.
BC pitchers Joey Salinas and Nathan Ortiz held El Camino scoreless in their 8 1/3 innings of relief. Salinas gave up three hits in 2 1/3 innings. Ortiz gave up five hits while finishing out the last six innings of the game. He earned the win.
