Bakersfield College will honor longtime Bakersfield Californian sports reporter Jeff Evans at halftime of Saturday's home game against Santa Monica.

Evans covered sports at The Californian for 37 years. He covered high school sports initially before moving to the college beat in the fall of 1986, when he immediately began covering BC football.

Evans announced his retirement from TBC Media in September.

Renegade sophomore football players will also be honored at halftime, and veterans of the armed services will get into the game for free as a tribute to their service.

BC enters the game with a 6-1 record. The Renegades have three games remaining on their 2017 regular season schedule: Saturday vs. Santa Monica, Nov. 4 at Ventura and Nov. 11 at Canyons.

Saturday's game is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m.
