Check out Levan Institute

Thanks to the generous endowment of Dr. Norman Levan, the creation of the Levan Institute for Lifelong Learning was established at Bakersfield College. Local residents are fortunate to be able to enjoy a program geared toward those who would like to enrich their minds and explore new ideas.

The Levan Institute is under the direction of Robert Allison and is now starting its third semester of courses. It offers some 40 classes in subjects ranging from art, computers, photography, wine and many other subjects. It's inexpensive because most expenses are covered by Dr. Levan's gift and the small fees cover the instructor and special materials or transportation.

Although the classes are generally aimed at those 55 or older, anyone interested can take any of them. For a complete list, go to a public library, or visit www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/levaninstitute or call 395-4431.

It doesn't matter whether your interests are silver smithing or beer brewing, soap making, history, literature, writing, or personal finances, you will find something that interests you.
