Throw them all out

We recently received our new property tax statement and observed a substantial increase.

On Sept. 24, at 9:30 a.m., I went to the tax assessor's office because we did not know the assessed value for last year. The lady was very nice and showed me the disparity in the two assessments. She told me that I could request a review, but cautioned me to pay the tax due by Dec. 10 if we did not receive a prior response.

I was more than surprised when I received a letter the next day advising me that the assessed value will not be changed. I was more than surprised that I received such fast service in view of the large number of employees who were coming to work after 9:30 while I was in the office.

There are many houses on my street that have been for sale for many months. I know of only one that has been sold in the last year and the owner told me he gave it away.

I suspect that the tax appraisers have been trained by Crisp and Cole and are not employed for appraising real estate for land owners.

I thought that I would write a letter to Assessor Jim Fitch and tell him that I would not vote for him, but I recall that I earlier made a vow not to vote for any incumbent ever again. I want to throw all of them out.
