We need more convenient way to license pets

Whether they live in areas of Kern County that lie within county or city jurisdiction, there is no reason a person can't go to his local veterinarian and license his animals. Nearly all businesses have faxes or Internet, so they can facilitate the necessary paperwork. If you can register to vote at the DMV, this is a no-brainer.

I am one of those people who, when told I'd have to drive all the way out to Mount Vernon Avenue to license my two dogs, got back into the car with them and just went home.

Incentive programs could be initiated with either discounts or vouchers for other services that would motivate people to go to their local vets. This, for one thing, gets more animals licensed, spayed or neutered, and two, allows vets to spot and treat certain illnesses that county Animal Control is neither trained nor equipped to handle.

Why am I the one thinking of this instead of some paid or elected official? They've been trying to figure out how to enforce licensing, and this would help generate revenue for so many sheltered and abandoned animals.
