The Pill helps women
My Monday morning chuckle was the Oct. 12 letter, "The Pill hurts women," in which the writer rambled on regarding infertility in fish and frogs being related to women taking the Pill, and therefore contributing to global warming.
Admittedly, I lack a degree in biology or environmental studies. However, as a former Ob-Gyn nurse, I strongly disagree with the headline of that writer's letter: "The Pill hurts women." An unplanned pregnancy, or an abortion (which this writer opposes), can have a greater negative impact on a woman's life than using the Pill. In recent years, new forms of the Pill carry a much lower risk of side effects than the earlier versions.
All methods of birth control should be discussed with a woman's health care provider, who can help to determine the best method for her. It is this writer's personal belief that the Pill is the single strongest weapon in the "war on poverty."
