War connection?

Another teen dead. Another grieving Mom. ("Mother has painful drug message for teens," Feb. 26.) Heroin is the killer but we must ask ourselves a very pointed question. If we are fighting in the No. 1 heroin producing country (Afghanistan) the supply to the streets of Oildale must be dwindling, right?

Let's look at history. To get cooperation of the Laotians during the Vietnam war, Air America (CIA) purchased and actually flew in and out of farms buying and transporting heroin. Some ended up being used by our own troops.

I do not know what is happening in Afghanistan. But a drug lord's loyalty is usually bought, not earned. I pray I am wrong.
