Privatize firefighting

Want a cushy job? Join a local fire department. Where else can you complete your work week in two days being paid for sleeping, reading, watching TV and going to the gym -- and, oh yeah, then five days off before you go back for another two days.

The pay is outstanding as compared to private sector jobs, and you won't believe the retirement plan.

It seems the taxpayers don't spend much time thinking how inefficient their firefighting money is spent.

Seriously, why can't fire departments operate on shifts like the police departments and then figure out how to make all the wasted time productive? How about being computer support for other departments?

Maybe we should consider contracting our fire departments to private enterprise and invite proposals with innovative thinking to accomplish efficiencies.
