Fish over families?

I'm in complete agreement with Inga Barks regarding the Delta smelt ("Stop putting fish before the needs of real people," June 20).

Don't be silent, Inga -- many more agree with you than support the rights of a 2-inch fish. Say what you will, tree huggers, but that fish is costing the valley jobs; So far 80,000 jobs have been lost, with more to come. Family farms are also going under as our valley's great farmers are no longer able to pay their bills due to lack of water over a fish you and I will never see unless we take up scuba diving.

Maybe you have seen the signs along Interstate 5: "Food grows where water flows." No water, no food. Oh, and no jobs. Let's see if people still oppose turning on the pumps and giving our farmers water when milk and produce starts being imported from China at outrageous cost to us consumers.

Don't be misled -- there is plenty of water awaiting our farmers, but because of a few whiners, we all suffer. Let that useless fish go the way of the dinosaurs. Fish or families, which is more important?
