Jacko verdict: Press killed Michael
Congratulations paparazzi. You have, once again, contributed greatly to a celebrity's death. Michael Jackson, although a world known entertainer, was also a human being. He could not make a move, anywhere, anytime, without the sneaky slithering of someone snapping photos or shoving a microphone in his face. It's not surprising the man became "strange" or "eccentric."
Limitations should be applied to media folks who think it OK to invade a person's private space. It's no wonder many famous people retreat to places like Monaco.
Fans adore Michael Jackson, as fans adore so many celebrities. But it doesn't mean the majority of fans want their "idol" destroyed, inch by inch, forced to endure the constant stress and annoyance of the dreaded paparazzi.
I used to respect journalists and the like, but what I've seen happen over the years to people we love or admire in the public eye, largely due to invasions of privacy, is a shame. Even now, in Michael's death, every TV channel and every magazine is tripping over the others. What next, pictures of the autopsy? Shame, shame!
I, for one, will always admire Michael Jackson's talent and contribution to the world. May he finally rest in peace.
