Meanwhile, my reality

The Legislature has voted itself yearly raises so often, the pittance 3 percent that they turned down isn't going to hurt them.

Jealous? I am. I would love to be able to live within their means. But alas, I am just a worker that can barely make ends meet.

I have worked for the county for 20 years and they have a standard operating procedure: If it makes sense, it will not work. I don't see them doing anything about it except laying off the ones who actually do the work.

I started with the county in 1989 with 150-plus custodians and half the buildings that they have now. Ten years ago they had 53 and as of the other day, 23. Seems to be a pattern here. Looks like it may be time the folks in residence at the Taj Mahal emptied their own trash again -- and starting bringing a toilet brush in with them.

Seniors, look out -- the senior hall you have gotten used to is closing on weekends. That is, unless you want to pay $600 a day to keep it open.

We won't have parks. They will be dried up weed patches.
