Those bicycle lanes cost money, too: Tax those cyclists

This will surely chap the hide of bicyclists. Many of my friends and family ride motorcycles. They pay taxes annually for registration as well as sales and use taxes when they buy or sell their bikes. No special "motorcycle only" lanes are provided.

Recreational bicyclists pay no such fees. Lanes designated for their use only are seen everywhere. Special paths are provided whether used for special events or a daily workout. Try running a motorcycle race event on public streets. Off-roaders pay their way and don't even use public roadways.

I'm sure to hear from people who believe bicycles are helping by being a pollution-free way to commute. No argument here. Many recreational bicyclists drive to their favorite bike parks, then off they go: no vehicle fees, road tax or even an insurance requirement. They need to pay their way. Those bicycle lanes cost money to create and maintain.

No motor vehicle in your daily commute, so you use that bike for daily transportation? Good for you. Prove it. Register and pay taxes to support the roadways. If it has wheels, tax them all or none at all.
