Inspiring young singers

Don't you love that hopeful sense of future when you observe young people excelling in social, academic, spiritual, artistic or sports settings?

Well, Friday, Dec. 11 proved to be one of those serendipitous moments. My wife, Becky and I were out running an errand when we stumbled on a wonderful musical presentation at Valley Plaza. (Thank you, Valley Plaza!)

A choir of approximately 30 elementary-age children were singing songs about Christmas. We were entertained and quite impressed with their discipline, enthusiasm and the quality of their performance.

It was quite obvious they were thoroughly enjoying themselves. Their repertoire was at least a dozen songs; it included choreography and solos, all memorized. We noted that there were a good number of boys performing.

It was altogether refreshing. Afterwards, we found out the program was presented by E3 Performing Arts/Garden Pathways. This is an afterschool program which they call an alternative to day care. Thank you E3, great job!
