Proposition 16 nothing but a PG&E scam

Proposition 16 is not, as the ads say, "a voters rights" issue. It is a big con by PG&E. They have made nine donations totaling $34.5 million to the Yes-on-Prop. 16 campaign.

PG&E feels it is better to pass a proposition statewide than to fight each municipality. Four years ago, Yolo County tried to join the Sacramento Municipal Utility District. PG&E spent $11 million in a successful campaign to stop it.

By passing Prop. 16, it will take a two-thirds majority of the voters to break away from a utility such as PG&E. If you look at our state's legislative history, you will see what requiring a two-thirds majority has done to our budget. PG&E knows it is almost impossible to obtain a two-thirds majority. If you feel you want to be able to vote, then make it a simple majority, not the two-thirds majority required by Prop. 16.

If you doubt who really benefits from Prop. 16, look at PG&E's $34.5 million in contributions to fight a No-on-Prop. 16 fund of just $36,000. If you doubt these figures, check the Capitol Weekly. You might remember that $34.5 million as part of the $1.5 billion profit they made off you in 2009.
