The extreme religious right seems to have undue influence on the Republican Party. They are fond of saying "What would Jesus do?" Well, just what would Jesus do?

Would Jesus own a gun? Would Jesus join the NRA? Would Jesus advocate pre-emptory war? I don't think so.
Would Jesus be a member of the Republican Party? I don't think so.
He would probably be some sort of socialist. He might join a party with a democratic-socialist philosophy. He might even join -- gasp! -- the Green Party.
