Roundabout dilemma

Robert Price's recent column on traffic roundabouts was very timely. The subject of traffic circles has been very controversial here in Ridgecrest recently. Much heat and very little light has been shed on the subject. Some think they are the greatest thing since canned sex, while others such as myself think they're terrible.

It sounds as if the sources Price cited could provide some real information that would help reach reasoned decisions.

One factor that contributes to my negative opinion is my experience with them in Rhode Island. The local custom, if not the law, was that vehicles already in the circle should yield to those entering. Needlessly, traffic would often grind to a halt, but then the drivers in Rhode Island are awful in all respects. (They learn to drive by mimicking the Boston drivers, the truly worst in the U.S.)
