The iniquity of Sodom, says Ezekiel 16, was "pride, fullness of bread, abundance of idleness, did not strengthen the hand of the poor and need. They were haughty, and did abomination before My face."

* Pride. Friendly nations begged America to stay out of Iraq. We torture prisoners. We are the world's biggest weapons dealer.
* Fullness of bread. Obesity in America is growing, poverty rising.
* Abundance of idleness. We spend hours in front of the television where we are spoon-fed information. Freedom isn't free, but we spend little time researching the truth. Our democracy is dying from the inside.
* "She did not strengthen the hand of the poor and needy." With a smaller national market, we export deadly cigarettes to developing countries and make them financial slaves with World Bank loans. Today's American economy is 25 times more productive than in 1900, but worker pay is virtually stagnant. From 1990 to 2003, inflation rose 41 percent, average worker pay rose 49 percent, corporate profits rose 128 percent and CEO compensation rose 313 percent.
* "They were haughty, and did abomination before My face." Our corporate and political leaders act as if God wasn't there. The fact is: God is there. He does bring down nations that act out of foolish pride. "America is going down fast!" says my pastor.
We can, however, avert disaster. We can become a people who fear God. Righteous national politicians do exist. Come on, America! Do your homework! It's time to rediscover who we can be.
