McCain out of touch

A reader excoriated Barack Obama for "criticizing" John McCain for his financial success, but I must correct many errors in her letter. Obama was not saying that McCain's financial success is bad, but he was replying to McCain's accusation that Obama is a Harvard educated, wealthy, "elitist" who is out of touch with the American public.

It was the Republicans who lobbed the first grenade. Barack Obama merely pointed out that he was raised by a working-class, single mother and attended Harvard on scholarships and grants and that he owns one home, while John McCain is extremely wealthy and owns seven homes (although it has been found out that he really owns nine homes).

In fact, when asked about it by a reporter, McCain was unable to say just how many residences he owns. Which candidate is more out of touch with average Americans?

By the way, John McCain did not earn most of his wealth, he has a multi-billion beer fortune his wife inherited. Yes, he's not a millionaire, but a billionaire.

The behind-the-scenes Republican hatchet man, Karl Rove, is the architect of the smear campaign aimed at spreading complete falsehoods about Obama and the Democratic Party, such as Obama is a radical Muslim terrorist out to overthrow the U.S. Rove and his minions use these lies to keep the attention away from the issues important to most American citizens, such as the economy, the war in Iraq, energy, the environment and jobs.

I may be a snob, but I would rather have an intelligent, informed, rational man (or woman) for president who tries to help poor and working class families get ahead than to have one who cares whether I want to have a beer with him.
