I cannot find the words to describe my horror and sadness over the murder of Ezequiel Perez on Father's Day.

If there is a God, please let these individuals be tried as adults. My prayers and condolences go to the Perez family.

Killing was senseless

I have read and watched reports of the brutal and senseless beating death of 81-year-old Ezequiel Jimenez Perez. This was a man going about his normal weekend routine of collecting cans when five punks collectively decided to commit a heinous, unspeakable act that would end the life of this man and change his family's lives forever. They showed no compassion, no respect and no mercy.

The district attorney is now discussing whether to proceed in its prosecution of these hoodlums as either "juveniles" or "adults." What is this world coming to?

Not only are our children committing atrocious acts of violence, but the age at which these acts are carried out is dropping.

Parents need to stop blaming the system, the schools, the economy and law enforcement. These parents need to start looking closer to home. They need to start looking at themselves. Hold children accountable for their actions. Stop blaming the size of your "paycheck" on the way your children present themselves to the world.

Start taking action toward your children and stop the reaction to the community's disgust of your children's behavior, and in this case their atrocious, criminal acts.
