Dick Cheney, president?

Having just read The Californian's synopsis of Congressional votes this week, all I can say is: Are you kidding? Do we really need to go through the nightmare on Articles of Impeachment for a president who will be out of office in the next few months?

Someone needs to tell Dennis Kucinich (the member who brought the impeachment bill up) that even if this Congress remained in session long enough to go through all the hearings and the like and somehow managed to convict the president of whatever charges he has discovered, that the main bogeyman of the left -- Dick Cheney -- would be president! Then what's next, impeach him, too?
Here's the reality: Impeachment proceedings did not make the Republicans magically popular in 1998.
Today we have a Congress that has been asleep at the switch since at least the 2006 mid-term elections and is rated far less favorably than even President Bush. So, what we are left with is a do-nothing Congress, castigating a soon-to-be termed-out and unpopular president, with the end result having absolutely nothing done to formulate an energy policy that will help drive the future economic growth of this nation.
America should not have to make a choice between effective government and growth in the economic well-being of its citizens. We deserve far more than the pure rhetoric of "change" that only promises further growth of the federal government -- or else the only "change" we will be able to count on is that stuck between our sofa cushions.
