I've been going to Animal Control Commission meetings for two years and listened to people blame the public for too many animals being at the shelter and being put down each month.

I have listened to the laws they want to pass, fees they want to add and fines they want to start. I have never once heard them mention finding homes for the animals in the shelter, or what the shelter can do to find them homes.
You can pass whatever laws you want, raise fees and add fines, but none of this will find homes for the animals at the shelter.
Adoption days work for all the shelters in Kern County and the state. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work for the Kern County shelter.
Punishing people who are already taking care of their dogs is not going to help find homeless pets homes.
I am sure there are plenty of people out there that would love to help out with a Kern County shelter adoption day. But it's up to the Kern County shelter to hold one. If the problem is too many homeless animals at the shelter, then find them homes. Hold adoption days and have better hours. Be more people friendly.
I was at Garden Fest, and noticed Animal Control was there. How hard would it have been to take a few dogs out there and try to find them homes?
