When parents ignore their children instead of offering them love, they send a profound message. When parents are too selfish to help their own troubled children, they become complicit in whatever pain those children bring to society. Teachers should be trained to detect and redirect troubled, emotionally abandoned children, not asked to defend against them with guns because their parents have failed them.
If we assume all children get love somewhere — presumably at home — we assume incorrectly. If all Americans cared properly for their own children, those children would truly care about themselves and school shootings would not exist.
