With regards to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, let's for the moment set aside compassion, extending a helping hand, sharing one's good fortune, sense of fair play, humanity, the absolute letter-of-the-law and other emotions and feelings and concentrate on the one issue that most people really pay attention to: money.
To wit: Who in their right mind would invest or otherwise enhance a commodity with value and suddenly give it up without receiving something of equal or more value? No one I personally know. But yet that is the case with 800,000 human beings labeled as DACA and on the verge of being deported.
In so many ways, we the U.S. taxpayer have invested much treasure in DACAs. This investment is not unlike that made on those human beings that were fortunate to have been born in the U.S. Our education tax dollars in our kids (DACA or otherwise) by far will be surpassed by our return on investment.
Our federal legislators must immediately stop all DACA deportations, allow for those already deported to return, and legislatively set a path for citizenship. If need be, let Trump have his wall and let Mexico pay for it. After all, if Mexico pays for it, it will own it (as owners, I wonder what they would do with it?).
It's sad that in an era of enlightenment, human beings are still being used as chattel and pawns to gain the upper hand with political agendas.
