Gregory Porter's benefit concert on behalf of the Bakersfield chapter of Habitat for Humanity on Jan. 20 at CSUB's Dore Theater was extraordinary in so many ways.

The driving, exciting, creative musical performances of the pianist, bassist and drummer (each of whom were outstanding artists in their own right), blended seamlessly to provide you with the varied, nuanced musical support and accomplishment for your uniquely individual artistry.

More than a concert, yours was a moving, musical experience that spoke to the better angels of our collective humanity. Through the universal language of music, in your chosen fusion-jazz medium, you expressed the silent yearnings of us all for a time of love and peace in the world.

I am sure that I speak for all of Bakersfield in sending you all our good wishes for your upcoming concert in New York City at Carnegie Hall. I feel certain your music and message will excite your audiences there to jump to their feet in enthusiastic standing ovations, just as they did at your "Coming Home" concert here on Jan. 20.
