The people of Bakersfield are asking for better pedestrian and bicycle safety. Well, they had better ask the pedestrians and cyclists themselves.

Driving the streets of Bakersfield, this is what I have seen: bicycles going the wrong direction against traffic, bicycles on streets with no bike lane or safe zone, a guy being pulled on his skateboard by his dog, and pedestrians standing on the yellow line in the middle of the street. What happened to the jaywalking law? If the Bakersfield Police Department hasn't had time to monitor this kind of dangerous activity, we had better get them back at it again.

We live in a school zone, and some cars go by here twice the posted speed limit.
