A godly society wouldn't need Obamacare

Nearly everyone will agree that the federal government is getting bigger every day under President Obama. The government has its hand in the banking industry, in the automotive industry and soon to be -- but hopefully not -- the health care industry. This is not a good thing. Why is he doing this? Why is this not good?

While conservatives largely believe that God granted men certain inalienable rights, and that with those rights he also granted men the strength and the will to fight for and preserve these rights for their selves and their fellows, liberals such as Obama operate from a fundamental belief that there is no God, or at least no God who bothers himself to participate in human affairs.

For the most part, modern liberals hold to a relativistic Darwinist philosophy that says that men, women and animals have all the same moral and social obligations to each other -- that is, none. If there are to be any, we are to create them as we see fit, or rather, those in power are to create moral and social obligations as they see fit. Obviously, these obligations are subject to change.

If there is no God to create in people a desire for right, for liberty or for justice, then those in power must impose and coerce this desire externally. This requires a constant stream of new laws, as individuals who don't believe in God discover every day new ways to violate the rights of another. Restrictions must increase. Fireworks become illegal because people refuse to handle them properly. Guns face tighter restrictions as violence increases. A society that hardly believes in God cannot remain a free society. Has there ever been a more free country than the United States, established by those who believed in God?

If there is no God to provide for the poor or the sick, then those in power must do so. This requires an enormous tide of social welfare programs. Together with law enforcement, the government will require high taxes, which stifle economic growth. Barack Obama admitted as much when he said, "Let the government do for you what you cannot do for yourself." He changed an older and better established saying which was, "God will do for you what you cannot do for yourself."

If there is no God to guide individuals to correct and wise decisions, then the government must do so. Unhealthy foods face greater restriction because people refuse to exercise self-control. The government must guide the distribution of wealth and property. The rich must be taxed to care for those who are not. The government must guide the operation of industry, banking, health care. Insurance companies who abuse their customers must be more strictly regulated. If there is no omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent God, wise and caring, to take care of His creation, then the federal government must step up.

The bottom line is this: is the man elected to lead your country representative of your beliefs?
