The Golden Empire Drum & Bugle Corps from Bakersfield College will present the Fourth Annual “Resound” Drum Corps International Contest at 7 p.m. July 20 at Memorial Stadium on the Bakersfield College campus.

A total of 10 corps from as far as Salt Lake City will perform.

The box office opens at 5 p.m. Tickets will cost $10 for students, $15 for general admission and $20 for premium seating.

The corps is comprised of youth who are furthering their education in brass, percussion and visual performance.


Parents and their children are encouraged to attend the California Highway Patrol Start Smart program, a free class taking place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Bakersfield CHP Office located at 9855 Compagnoni St.

Start Smart is offered to current and prospective teen drivers and their parents or guardians. The two-hour class discusses safe driving habits, consequences of poor choices behind the wheel and tips for how to avoid a collision.

The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce is now accepting vendor applications for the 2018 Business Expo.

The expo will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 12, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Bakersfield, 3100 Camino Del Rio Court.
