Scarlett Galindo poses in a dress designed by Dulce Zenteno and Breana Renteria at the Harvey Auditorium fashion show. The students made dresses out of newspapers, magazines or recycled paper.

Q: What do the BHS fashion students do with their dresses made of newspaper after the annual fashion show for the Newspaper Runway project?

— Elizabeth Sanchez

A: BHS keeps the dresses for a few years to show my other classes, and then the students can decide if they can enter them in to the recycle challenge that we have in Bakersfield next year. My advanced girls use the pictures for portfolios when they apply to fashion school. I have one doing that this year.
