Thirty-six arrests were made in August during a sheriff's enforcement operation targeting dilapidated residences and squatters in the Kern Valley area, according to deputies.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office worked with the county Code Compliance Department to reduce crimes related to squatters living inside vacant residences, enforce county ordinance codes, and to tag unsafe residences, a sheriff's news release said.

Deputies seized one firearm, a butane honey oil lab, several grams of methamphetamine and several pounds of marijuana from residences during the operation.
